Lauren Thomas: Fibers
At age 19 I decided to learn to knit. With library books as my teachers I learned to follow a pattern. Soon I began altering and ultimately writing patterns for my own original designs.
Eventually I expanded into the art of felting, which is the process of turning wool fiber into felt fabric.
I make my felted hats and bags by knitting wool yarn into the desired shape, then washing the piece in hot water causing the fibers to shrink and matte together. No two items ever come out the same.
My hand-knit hats, scarves, and wraps and felted hats and bags show an appreciation for classic styles updated with a modern flair.
