Katherine Wibell: Painting
Fascinated by the mind’s ability to organize individual points into identifiable images, Katharine, a graduate of Mercer University’s Fine Art and Psychology programs, began experimenting with pointillism and stippling. Although her work was constantly evolving, one core aspect remained – the dot. However, her own style did not fully emerge until she was introduced to reverse-glass painting. In this art form, glass is the canvas. The artist paints on the “back,” and the completed painting is not revealed until the glass is turned over. Ranging from large to small-scale art, her subject matter focuses primarily on local themes and animal portraiture. Her window-painting series utilizes repurposed “Katrina” windows from destroyed homes. Her private commissions include pet portraiture, wildlife and home installations.
