Peggy Bishop: Ceramics
My garden totem poles are all one of a kind pieces. I see them as large scale sculptures equally at home in the garden or in the great indoors. They are thrown on a wheel often with hand built embellishments. They are made of stoneware and fired in an electric kiln to cone 6. They are designed to be staked ona 3/4” pipe.
My work is colorful, joyous, and almost childlike in its energy and exuberance. In fact, I trace my inspiration as a potter directly back to a vivid childhood memory of happily making mud pies as a little girl of five or six. Nowadays I am sort of a guerilla potter, putting my work out in public, often surreptitiously, to share it with as many people as possible without undue artifice or pretense.
Living in the heart of New Orleans on beautiful Bayou Saint John, there is always an abundance of wildlife from which to draw inspiration.
